Greek Salad
Our worth isn't measured by what we lack, but by what we already have to offer.
Beyond the Ingredients
Why This Recipe Matters
Greek salad brings together ingredients that couldn't be more different. Crisp cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, sharp red onion, salty olives, and creamy feta. Each has its own flavor, texture, and character. Some are bold, others subtle, but none needs to change what it is to contribute something to the finished dish.
We often look at ourselves through the things we wish were different. The abilities we haven't developed, the qualities we think we lack, or the ways we believe we don't measure up. It's easy to spend so much time focusing on what we're not that we lose sight of everything we already are.
But our value isn't determined by how closely we resemble someone else or how successfully we've eliminated our imperfections. We each bring our own experiences, perspectives, abilities, and qualities into the world. Some are immediately noticeable, while others take time to recognize, even in ourselves.
We can continue learning, growing, and changing without believing that who we are today is somehow not enough.

The Takeaway
Recognizing our own worth begins with appreciating what we already have to offer, rather than measuring ourselves against everything we think we should be.
What You Need
Ingredients
Serves 2–3 servings
How to Make It
Directions
- 1
Chop the tomatoes into large wedges or bite-sized pieces and add to a large bowl.
- 2
Slice the cucumber and add to the bowl.
- 3
Slice the red onion as thinly as you can and add to the bowl. (If the onion is very sharp, soak slices in cold water for 5 minutes, then drain.)
- 4
Chop the green bell pepper and add it along with the Kalamata olives.
- 5
In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- 6
Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat everything.
- 7
Place the feta block on top (or crumble it over) rather than mixing it in — this keeps it beautiful and intact.
- 8
Finish with an extra pinch of dried oregano on top and serve immediately.
From the Kitchen
Small Things That Matter
Use the best feta you can find — a good block feta in brine is creamier and more flavorful than pre-crumbled
Don't skip the onion soak if yours is strong — 5 minutes in cold water mellows the bite dramatically
Cut everything into similar, generous sizes — Greek salad is meant to have big, hearty pieces
Dress the salad just before serving so the vegetables stay crisp and vibrant
Variations & Additions
Make It Yours
- Add a handful of fresh mint or parsley leaves for a bright, herby freshness
- Toss in some cooked chickpeas or white beans to make it a more filling main course
- Use cherry tomatoes instead of large tomatoes for sweet, bite-sized bursts
- Add a few pepperoncini for a tangy, mildly spicy kick
